Our Story
North Athens Baptist Church originated in the minds and hearts of a small group of people as a result of an old fashioned brush arbor revival meeting held in 1914 near the site of the present church building. With the help of the pastor of First Baptist Athens, a group of 12 people met on September 19, 1914 and organized North Athens Baptist Church. Since its inception 20 men have served the church as pastor. The current pastor, Dr. Felix R. (Bob) Kerr, was called in October 1986.
North Athens Baptist Church circa 1920. The building in the picture was on Anton Street, about two blocks from the present building.
The Rock Church
The “Rock Church” was constructed in 1926 at the present location on Tellico Ave. The men of the church collected field rock and masons were hired (at 20 cents per hour) to lay the rock. The picture below shows the old building before the present auditorium was constructed.
